Philosophy of Teaching
The pursuit of educating nurses has been my lifelong dream, influenced by personal experiences at Charlton Memorial Hospital and Brockton Hospital School of Nursing. Over time, my teaching philosophy has evolved beyond traditional lecturing, emphasizing engagement to promote nurses' comprehension and application of nursing knowledge, concepts, and processes. Recognizing the inherent power dynamics in various educational settings underscores the importance of fostering an environment conducive to autonomous learning.

Teaching embodies the intricate process of imparting knowledge with an artful engagement that transforms learners. Beyond sound teaching methods, I believe exceptional educators possess the foresight to tailor their approach to their learners' unique needs and characteristics. The most impactful teachers are adept at delivering knowledge with a palpable passion, conveying a sense of transmitting invaluable insights. Enthusiasm creates an environment where learning becomes an engaging and transformative journey for nurses.

Mastering a profession like nursing requires the integration of various learning modalities, going beyond mere memorization. Successful professional learning involves a deep understanding and practical application of knowledge and internalizing values and ethics inherent to the profession. This comprehensive approach ensures the retention of information and facilitates its application in the dynamic context of nursing practice. My goal for nurses is for them to become active in their learning. As a nurse educator, I aim to successfully guide nurses to the culmination of their nursing knowledge journey, ensuring they have employed every effort to facilitate positive outcomes, including successful knowledge acquisition and sustained enthusiasm for ongoing learning.
Curriculum Vitae
I am a seasoned Registered Nurse with an extensive track record of over two decades in diverse nursing roles including PCU, ICU, CCU, and Interventional Radiology. Additionally, I have contributed to the Dartmouth Public Schools as a substitute school nurse.
My commitment to nursing education is demonstrated through my roles as a Clinical Instructor and Simulation Operator at UMass Dartmouth. The experience of teaching within the UMass Dartmouth nursing program has proven exceptionally gratifying, prompting my desire to transition into a more permanent position within the field.
